In my grandfather's stuff, there was a small wood plane (wood shaver). Folded up and stuffed inside it, was a small piece of paper with the following written on it. My grandfather was not a Turner, though his stepmother was a Florence Turner.
"This little plane was made by my grandfather Thomas(?) Welland Turner (first name hard to read, paper was torn) - probably in the 1860's, as he was with Custer up in the Sioux Country. I've heard he was at the Little Big Horn, but I thought they were all wiped out. Anyway that's the family story that he was there. Welland is the family name - The Welland Camel is named for some ancestor."
Anyone know anout this family?
My grandfather's stepmom was Florence Turner, b. Oct 6, 1893, OR, (daughter of Harry Turner and Lucinda Van Valkenburg).
Thanks, Greg
