In the 1830 Belmont Co., OH census there were 2 Cater families, those of George and John.
George’s consisted of the following: Males 1: 5-10, 1: 10-15 & 1: 40-50. Females 1<5, 2: 10-15, 1: 30-40 & 1: 50-60. From the 1850 census, George was b: abt 1783 in MD.
John’s family consisted of : Males 1: 5-10, 1: 20-30 & 1: 50-60. Females 1: 20-30 & 1: 50-60. From the 1850 census, John was born abt 1776 in MD.
As William Josiah Cater was born about 1815, he fits with George’s 1830 census, but not with John’s.
In 1850, Samuel and Mary Ann Cater Wharton lived next door to John Cater. I believe that George and John were brothers, making John, Mary Ann’s uncle.
