Barbara, First, before your GenForum posting, I had never heard of the Caters. My mother was a Wharton and I check into anything Wharton. I am always researching the Wharton line, whether mine or not. Yours is not my Wharton line. I have a fantastic book, “The Wharton Sleeve” which cover the Wharton family from its beginning about 1250 in England through the early Americans. The book was never published and I have one of the few copies in circulation. There is a copy in the LOC. As to the birth dates of Nathan Lewis and Samuel Wharton, they were in The Sleeve and they are considered even more accurate by me as they were great uncles of the author of the book, Nathan Earl Wharton. About William W. Cater, I wonder about his being the son of John, Sr. In the 1830 census John, Jr. is most surly the only 20-30 male in John, Sr,’s census. In the 1840 Somerset Twp., Belmont Co., OH, census there is a William Cater, his first appearance in any OH census, who may be William W. or he and his widower father who might be a William. In any case, that census has Arthur Wharton, John Cater, Jr., John Cater, Sr. and William Cater following one after another. The latter, William, has Males: 2: 5-10, 1: 10-15, 1: 20-30, 1: 30-40 and 1: 50-60 and Females: 2<5, 2: 5-10, 1: 10-15 and 1: 30-40. I believe this could William W. his widower father, a brother, and William W.’s family. Regards, Dave Notify Administrator about this message?
