Ira Wharton, son of Rice Wharton and Nancy McKee, was born about 1832 in Wayne Co, Ind. He served in 8th Ind Inf Co D in the Civil War. His first wife was Lois. His second wife was Eva Duke married Dec 24, 1882 in Henry Co, Mo. They had 3 children: John A. Wharton, Frank Wharton and Nellie/Ida Wharton Gray.

Obituary of John A. Wharton
John A. Wharton born Jun 16, 1884 in Henry Co, Mo; died Jan 27 -- in Covina, Calif. His obituary: John A. Wharton, who had made his home at 128 E. Palm Street, in Baldwin Park, for the last four years died suddenly Monday night, Jan 27, in a Covina Hospital. Born in Ladue, Henry county, Missouri, June 16, 1884, he resided the greater part of his life in Colorado. He worked in the post office department there for nearly 35 years and at the time of his retirement was superintendent of the West End station in Colorado Springs. During World War I Mr Wharton served in the postal agency attached to the American Expeditionary Forces in France from April 18, 1918, to Sept 6, 1919. Mr Wharton was a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees and the A.E.F. Postal Agency. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, Colorado Springs council No 582, also a member of the Holy Name Society of Baldwin Park. An enthusiastic participant in all activities planned to promote the growth of St John the Baptist Catholic Church in Baldwin Park, his will be the first funeral in the church he helped to build. Besides his daughter, Frances of Sacramento and his son, Norman of Canon City, Colorado, Mr Wharton is survived by his mother, Mrs Eva Wharton, a sister, Mrs Ida Gray and a brother, Frank Wharton, all of Baldwin Park. Rosary was recited Thursday evening at 8 o'clock in the Baldwin Park Funeral Home. Requiem Mass was said this morning at the St John the Baptist church with interment following at the Calvary cemetery, Los Angeles.
