Hi,
I have heard the story about George Whitt marrying the Native American as his second wife. However we thought the George Whitt that did that was the son of the George Whitt who is my great great great grandfather.
My George D. Whitt was born in 1815 in Virginia or Ky the census records can't seem to agree. He married Margaret around 1835 (we think) because his first child Eli was born around 1836 in Logan County. He appeared on the Logan County tax list in 1843 as a farmer. He was granted 18 acres on the Tug River in Tazewell County. The actual land that was granted is now in McDowell County (as county lines have changed over time). I know he lived in Wyoming County by 1850 in the area of Muzzel Creek. We have a copy of his will. Wonder how we're connected??? Sounds like, your Marcus and My George would be of the same generation-maybe brothers??
Could you email me the photo? My email is melissa_ballard@bellsouth.net.
I have written a book detailing our Whitt line, called Traveled Pathways: Our Ancestors Journey. Its at the local libraries there in McDowell County, Logan and Wyoming Tazewell Counties.
Let me know what you think.
Melissa
