Whorton/Johnson conection in Cullman, AL abt 1877

I'm hoping to find a conection between John Wesley Johnson (b April 16, 1846 AL, d May 6, 1942, MO) and R. H. L. Whorton. On Oct 31, 1877, Cullman County, AL, R. H. L. Whorton signed a marriage bond with John Wesley Johnson for John and Electra E. Reyer to be married. This bond was $200 and back in 1877 that was a LOT of money.
Have been at a brick wall trying to find John W. Johnson's parents and hoping this might lead to something. John and Electra moved to MO about 1896- 1897, from the 1900 and 1910 MO census it does list that his parent were born father in GA and mother in AL, but this is all that we have been able to find.
Who is this R. H. L Whorton and who does he conect with the Johnson's?
Shari
