My great-great-grandfather was Abraham B. Horton, born 1808 in SC. The 1880 census of Lee County, MS shows both of his parents were born SC. A great-grandchild of
my Abraham was in possession of his old bible, listing both his name, his wife's maiden name, the date of their marriage, the initials of his children and their birth dates. I copied all this information and went from there into further research. This happened over 40 years ago and the bible has since disappeared. Over time, talked to older
descendants of my Abraham, none of whom agreed on his middle name; all of them with vague memories of it being either Bentley, Benton, Bartley, Bromley, etc.
You have done a service to me in concisely placing your research in a "keepable" mode which is definitely preferable to my several old workbooks with data entered
as found.
Early on, I was told (without verification) that my Abraham was the son of Abraham Horton Jr., grandson of Abraham Horton Sr. This was was probably because his family was censused Lawrence Co., AL 1850 and 1860. Prior to that, found the likely listing of Abram, spouse and infant daughter in Walker Co., AL in 1830.Abraham and Angeline G. Milton (b. TN) were married in 1828 and their oldest child was a female. Building on information picked up from travel, court records, correspondence, etc., have
tried to verifify the Pennsylvania Horton (Abraham Sr. and Jr) heritage of my ancestor and have been unable to prove or disprove it, but found more likely links to many of
the people showing within your web page. At this point, believe that the widely circulated and privately published accounts by mostly well-meaning people are sadly lacking in authenticity.
If anyone on this forum can supply more clues as to my
Abraham Horton, will certainly appreciate your input and
gladly share with you any pertinent information. As of now,
my latest clue is an old picture recently found of who seems
to be one Abraham Pinckney Horton, descendant of Benjamin
Whorton (Horton) found Hall County, GA.
