Looking for connection - John W Whorton

Can anyone help me? I am looking for a connection to other Whortons in GA in 1840's who may have had a son John W Whorton who moved to AR in 1840's first appearing on the AR census in 1850 in White Co, Marion Twp as 45 yr (b. 1805) GA. His wife is listed as Elva, 30 (b. 1820)GA. They have a total of 10 children together, seven listed on the 1850 and three born later. 1) William J,2) James,3) Newton R. 4)Martha Elizabeth, 5)John Manuel, 6)Francis, 7)Benjamin Lemuel, 8)Sarah, 9)Joseph B and 10)Elizabeth O'Dusta. Some b. GA, AR and at least one b. AL. During the 1840-1850 it seems they went back and forth between GA, AR & AL having their children but always returning to their land. In 1850 their name is listed as Whorton and I find Land Deeds in the names of John W. Whorton, William J. Whorton and Elva Whorton. In 1860, John is not on the census (probably died 1859) but Elva (Elvira) and the children are listed as Horton with the oldest son, William, wife and son, John W. Horton, 1 yr,living next door. in Van Buren Co., Mountain Twp. In 1870 Elva is in same location but again listed as Whorton. In 1880, Elva is gone but her son John M(Manuel) Horton is listed in same location with his family. Brother, Benjamin Lemuel Horton is listed in White Co., Cadron Twp. In 1900 John Manuel Horton (55)is listed in Cleburne Co., Rimy Twp. with his son, John (Wilson, called Jack)Horton living next door with his son, Wilson, 9 mos. (my grandfather, Joseph Wilson Horton) Their land changed counties several times as the counties lines were changed over the years. I have not been able to determine who John W. Whorton's father was. I am hoping that someone might be able to help me make that connection. There were several Wharton/Whorton/Horton in GA at the time. Some stayed on, some moved on to AL, AR, MO, and TX. My line (John (Jack)Wilson Horton) does move to TX in 1910 to Hunt Co. In 1920 Jack has died and his widow Leila R. Horton moves to Fannin Co., TX to live next door to her parents. Several of Jack's siblings stay in AR, one moves to OK...Benjamin Horton. Before 1850, I am not sure where my John W. Whorton is. I find one J W Whorton in Stewart Co., GA. that could possible be him. It shows his age as 20-30 and he s/b 35. The two males under 5 could be his two oldest sons, William and James and the age for Elva is correct so it could be him. If so, who is his father? There is a James M. Whorton in Stewart GA that is 20-30 so probably a brother to this J.W. Whorton and there is a John Whorton 70-80 in Gwinnett so this is a possible father. In 1830 there is a John Whorton, 70-80, a William Whorton, 40-50, and a Bartlett Whorton, 40-50 all in Gwinnett, GA. so one would assume that they were all related to each other but I don't know if any connection to my John W. Whorton. Also, another candidate could be the Jushua (Joshua?) Whorton, 60-70 in Franklin Co., GA. There is also a Robert Whorton, 20-30, a Jeptha Whorton, 20-30 which probably all related to each other but is there any connection to my John W. Whorton? Thirdly, a candidate from Hall, GA. Benjamin Whorton, 70-80 with a Jacob Whorton, 20-30 and Isaac Whorton, 20-30 all in Hall, Ga so they are all probablly related to each other but is there any connection to my John W. Whorton? Also in 1830, there is a Elijah Whorton, 40-50 in Newton, GA, Elisha Whorton, 30-40 in Jackson, GA, and a Joseph Whorton, 40-50 in Jackson, GA. There is no shortage of Whortons around but can anyone connect to my John W Whorton? If my John W. Whorton was born in 1805 in GA, then his parents must have been in GA by that time and came there from somewhere else, but where? Likely to have been NC, SC, VA or maybe even made a stop in TN or KY on the way. This is my huge stumbling block. I have not found any records of my John W Whorton in GA other than this Stewart Co. census. It is believed that he married around 1834 in GA. but I have found no records to prove that. I know almost nothing about Elva/Elvira. Some have said that her name was Mary Elva Dickens but nothing to prove that. She does have a daughter who names a daughter Mary Elva so it could be so. On the 1850 AR census, there is a family of Richard Dickens living next door to my Whorton. He is a couple of yrs older so thought he could have been her brother or cousin but haven't found anything to connect him to her. Don't know for sure that was her name. I am really hoping that someone who has done a lot of research on the Whorton family might be able to help me find a connection that will enable me to continue my research. For now I have hit a brick wall. If you have any info, please contact me directly at bcarolyn1213@aol.com. Thanks so much. Carolyn Horton Bostian
