I'm not sure on his rank in the family, but I do believe that he is an uncle to my great grandmother. She often spoke of an uncle Joe and Robert. Her name was Alma Whorton McConnell. She lived in Madison Cty. Arkansas where many whortons still reside. I hope this helped.
