A descendant of Earl wrote to me and explained that Pat Zwerlein was Esther, daughter of Michael Zwerlein and Louisa Daut. She had been married previously to Seidenbecher, had a son, Earl(who later took the Hoffmann name) div., then married Alphonse Hoffmann, had a son, Raymond. Alphonse died by 1910, before Raymond was 2 yrs old. I continue to search for the Hoffmann presence in Saukville. By 1900, the last name for the second husband of Theresa, mother of Alphonse, may have been Remlinger... Wm Remlinger 15 in the 1880 Census is a son of John and living in Port Washington............. the interesting connection is that they lived near the Kuhn family, who were butchers, and connected with The Union Meat Market, I believe. ........ Now there is a presence, in 1884, of Hoffmann Bros., in Saukville, with a butcher shop/residence, and it is referred to as the Union Meat Market. Were there two Union Meat Markets, one in Saukville and one in Port Washington? Nothing solid here,,, just peeked my interest to wonder if Kuhn neighbor, Wm. Remlinger isn't Wm [Reilaynder] hard to read on 1900 Census, step father to Alphonse. By 1900 they are married 3 yrs, so married in 1897. ..........It further peeks my interest to read, that the Saukville meat market/residence, of the Hoffmann Bros., had a fire on Dec. 12, of 1884, and that the wife of the eldest brother was safely removed, with her 6 day old infant. Hmmmmm could this be baby Alphonse? The 1900 Census says he is, b Dec 1884. Thankyou for any help you might offer. If Alphonse is found to be born Dec 6th, then I think the article in the Cedarburg paper is a connection. To date, I have no death record or obit information for Alphonse, only family tellings. I seek any news article that may have mentioned Alphons'e death or burial in 1910, or the 1887 marriage of Theresa, or the death information for her first husband, Hoffmann.
