James Benson Wier, Physician, was killed in the Civil War 1864. His father was William Wier, born Tyrone County, Ireland, June 5, 1792. Mother was Elizabeth Lipscomb, daughter of Dabney Lipscomb. William settled in Mississippi and was noted frontiersman and Methodist preacher. William was brother to my ancestor Swamsea Wier. William's father was Thomas Wier (married Mary Withrow 1787), born County Tyrone, 1763. They settled in SC in 1795, coming from Ireland aboard the "Volunteer" and landing in Charles Town, SC. The family is Scottish and descended fron the deVere's who invaded England from Normandy with William (The Conquerer or The Bastard) depending on your outlook on that day in eleventh century. See "Boyd Book" or "Ten Tribes of Wier in America" for further information.
