Very interesting! As I was researching my Wilkin family of Licking County Ohio, I came across the George Wilkin family (this was the 1850 census, pg. 385a). I still am not certain whether he is related to me or not. This George was listed as either 40 or 60 years of age (enumerator's handwriting was hard to read). He was a farmer born in VA (very possibly Hardy Co., WV where my Wilkins were from). His wife was Rebecca, age 44, born in Ohio. They had six children:
William M. 21 Ohio
Susan 18 Ohio
Mary J. 16 Ohio
Samuel 14 Ohio
Othaniel 9 Ohio
Harry 6 Ohio
You'll notice the next to last child was Othaniel. I'd never come across that name in all the Wilkin researching I've done (at least in my family)!
This may not help you any (of course the dates are off and could not be the same person).
