Thank you for the information. We are having trouble tracing back prior to 1729 although we heard rumour from a cousin that we should look in the Cambridge area. If the Wilkins altered the spelling at some point, this may be why we have come to a dead end. My grandmother implied that Wilkin used to be Welkin and that it was Dutch. The living Wilkin family that I am familiar with resides in Essex (and a recent find in Oxford). There are two family trees that trace back to John Wilkin and Mary Goodman (cousins) whom he married in 1753. Their son, John II, married a Catherine Richardson. She died and he married Elizabeth Woodward. I am from the second marriage; the Tiptree Wilkins are from the first. Some of the names connected with this family are Rix, Stevens, Rowan, Brundel, Morse, Fenning, Deck, Evitt, Binnie, Phillips, Pickering, Wilson, Graham, Deflorin, Appleyard, Barbieri, Clarke, Pulic, Bell, McKee, Gruchy, Krogh, Carlisle, Date, Orr, Henderson, Clark, Jackson, Chauvel, Parieczko, Wright Gessinger, Llewellyn-Bowen, Thompson, Swinborne, Sweet, Earl, Mindham, Walker (I have Walkers in my line), Saviz, Richards (she is married to Peter), Bouts, Diaper, Bawtree, Page, White, Staddon, Sadd, Delves, Rix, Bottomly, Cockle, Snow, Lash, Dodds (my great great grandmother), Robins, Haines, Anderson, Turner, Wade, Nugent, Evans, Martin, Wickham, Robinson, Elsom, Livesey, Pemberton, Gorry, Maitland, Peter, Trehearne, Rhys-Williams, Root, Houghton, Blyth, Carter, Nash, and Porter. (Thanks to some wonderful research by Peter Wilkin and Chris Pickering, as well as my Aunt Belinda Peacey). Chris thinks that John Wilkin II may have had three wives: one between the two I mentioned. He puts forth a good case for this and feels he has found a name. I am waiting confirmation. If this is the case, there should be more in the tree, unless she died without issue.
