Hi Steve, I have Wilkin from Gt. Yeldham and in my research have a list of Wilkin buried in St. Andrews church Gt. Yeldham.
I also have been in touch with a lady called Debbie Greenwood (have you?) who has similar names to you with a story of Walter Wilkin the Lord Mayor of London being a relation of hers.
My James Wilkin was born Stambourne/Gt. Yeldham 1820 his father was Samuel. James was a Brickmaker married to Rebecca, sons Arthur 1843, Walter Sidney 1851 and Bridget 1847.
I'm descended from Arthur 1843
James sister Hannah married James Angel from Tilbury.
They appear to be non-conformists.
We could have a connection, Gt Yeldham ect are still quite small places. Have you tried the Essex Family History site for surname interests there are a few people looking for Wilkin at Yeldham.
Maz
