My Winterton ancestors came from Whittlesey, in Cambridge, England. The Winterton's go back some seven hundred years in that area. There is also a town called Winterton on Sea on the East coast near Great Yarmouth. Charles was a very common Winterton name but I have no record of a Joseph. My Grand Parents came to Canada in the late 1800's
