Denny, This may be a long shot, but my grandmother was Frances Wasnak (Woznok; Wozniak) born in Lake Co. IN; Crown Point in 1885 to a Josef and Mary. She had one sister Anna b 1882. Their father and mother were born in Prussia/Poland and both girls spoke German and Polish. Their mother died in the late 1880s and their father either died or remarried. They grew up in Kankakee IL with another Polish family, the John Putz family, also Polish immigrants. Their stepmother was Victoria Putz, also an immigrant from Poland. Anyway, I am wondering if this is my grandmother's family--cousins, or relatives of some sort. They were Catholic.I know that Terre Haute IN was a big place for Polish immigrants.
I have had difficulty finding their parents, because the girls were born in off census years for Indiana.
This probably doesn't help either way--but I was struck by the similarities in names. My grandmother has no documentation on anything, so I am not certain about the last name, spelling and exact form, etc. Anyway, I just thought I would share this with you. (I have had stranger co-incidences in geneology, which lead to finding a totally new branch of the family!) So, it's worth an e-mail!
Best regards, mary corcoran at timedoc@kc.rr.com
