I am a descendant of an Elisha Gibbs Yager and Susan Sarah (Conyers) Yager who were married in 1850 and had a daughter named Sarah Jane, but I know nothing about any adopted/foster children and I never heard of them living in Mississipi. I would need some more information to figure out if your Yagers are related to mine. It sounds like an interesting complication; I will try to let you know if I find anything about your Polks.
Don't hold your breath, though--my great-aunt is notorious for not keeping records of people not directly related to herself, and she's my predecessor as family genealogist. Still, I'd be grateful if you could help me clear up this oddity about living in Mississippi.
