Anselm Zabele was born 16 Apr 1819 prob Gosheim, Oberndorf, Germany, died 7 Jan 1894 Wampsville, Madison Co., NY. He was the son of Eduard F. and Priska Hafen Zabele.

He married first Theresia Zuber abt 1838 prob Epfendorf, Oberndorf, Germany. She was the d/o Stefan and Theresia Schottin Zuber. Children by first marriage: Leonard Henry b. 5 Nov 1839 d. 4 Nov 1881 (married Catherine Zimmer), Coonrodt b. 24 Nov 1844, Solomon 1849, Henry 1851, Joseph b. Mar 1854 d. 1925 (married Margaret Zimmer). Leonard and Coonrodt were born in Epfendorf, Solomon, Henry and Joseph in NY, prob Madison Co.

Theresia died before October 1864 and Anselm married 2nd Sarah Hewitt, d/o Nathaniel and Elizabeth Hewitt of Wampsville, Madison Co., NY. Children (all born Madison Co.): Albert 1865 (m. Anna), George 1868 (never married), Frederick 1869 (m. Minnie/Lena), Mary 1871 (married Charles Skellham).

Anselm came to America in 1847 with his mother, a brother Kolumbus born 14 Nov 1809, and a sister Anastasia born 24 Dec 1821. His obituary states he left a sister "Mrs. Willey" of Rottersdam, NY, I presume this was Anastasia. (His wife and two sons were on the same ship but traveled under her maiden name.)

Also, in the Walnut Grove Cemetery in Wampsville there is buried a Polly Zebley "born 1842, died 24 May 1911". Polly is the only Zabele/Zebley/Zabley in central NY that I have been unable to identify (Anselm is also buried there but location of grave unknown). I do know that Polly was an inmate at the Almshouse in Eaton in 1900, but nothing else is known about her.

I have only been able to trace the descendants of Leonard Henry, Joseph, Frederick and Mary (I don't believe Albert had any children). I would like to hear from anyone researching this family.

Bud
