We are trying to trace my husbands grandfather James Elli Zacharias born 15/28 August 1892 (15th by the old style calender used in Greece which is 13 days behind the new calender). We have a document headed: No 197 The Kingdom of Greece, which states that James Elli matriculated as a greek citizen under number 227, born in Greece of Greek parents and is therefore entitled to all the rights of a Greek citizen. Signed by the mayor, Galaxidi 4 February 1912. We know that James's fathers name was Elias Zacharias.We think that Elias had a brother Dimitri/os and that James and Dimitri came to South Africa together. We also have a Union of South Africa certificate of Naturalization for James Elli, dated 20 February 1912 signed in Cape Town. The only information we have on Dimitri is that he was married to a Greek woman named Effi?? who returned to Greece after the death of Dimitri. This is vague information and we have no way of clarifying it. Perhaps someone can shed some light on this for us.
