My grandmother before she died told me the name was changed from Zachariah, or Zechariah. Zachariah was a hebrew... Hebrew is Jewish. My deduction is that the name is jewish in origin. It makes a lot of sense when you think about it. Look it up in a name book and it plainly states that the name is hebrew.
