Louise, I noticed that you posted your note in 2002, so you probably have your answers by now. I was not quite sure of your line, but if Benjamin Smiley Zachry is a part of it, then you are extended family; i.e., this is another branch of my family much further upline. Birth and death dates for Daniel and John do not match what I have, which explains why I can't quite place your line. We are dealing with a number of John's and Daniel's, both with Zachry and Zachary spellings. John Zachary was the son of James Zachary and was born in Caroline County (Drysdale parish) on Oct. 22, 1748. He married Sarah Hay, daughter of Daniel Hay. He died in Putnam County, Ga., in February 1813; a court record lists the spelling of his name at that time as "Zachry". James Zachary was born in Philadelphia, Pa., about 1725. He married Elizabeth Rucker. He died in Richmond County, Ga., in 1790. James's father was John Zachary, who was born in Philadelphia in 1704. His father was Daniel Zachary, born 1667, and married Elizabeth Lloyd in Philadelphia. His father was Thomas Zachary who married Rebecca Murford. His father was William Zachary II who died in 1625, and his father was William Zachary. Most of the above information came from Garland Corley, who has a website on familytreemaker.com. He inherited material from a relative who went up and down the east coast interviewing relatives. He has done extensive research adding to this and has excellent credentials. Someone from Texas joined the Colonial Dames through James's father, John, who was a planter in Virginia. Drysdale Parish was an off-shoot of St. Steven's Church and covered area to the north, which currently lies in both King and Queen County and Caroline County. Several researchers online have mentioned problems finding backup documentation due to a fire which destroyed the court house in King and Queen County. Caroline County is just north of King and Queen, just south of Fredericksburg city, and just east of Spotsylvania County. Another place you might check is the zachrys.org website. It has some technical problems, but also has a lot of information plus possible contacts. DAR library in DC also has quite a bit of information, since John Zachary/Zachry fought in the Revolution and 20+ relatives have joined under him. Good luck with your research.
